Director Joe Wright hired Saoirse Ronan for the lead role in the upcoming spy thriller movie Hanna. Besides Saoirse Hanna, the film is also starring Eric Bana and Cate Blanchett. The story revolves around a teenage girl who's raised from childhood to be the perfect assassin by her ex-CIA man father (Eric Bana) in rural Finland.

Thanks to USA Today here's a first look at Saoirse Ronan as Hanna:

Plot:
"Hanna (Saoirse Ronan) is a teenage girl. Uniquely, she has the strength, the stamina, and the smarts of a solider; these come from being raised by her father (Eric Bana), an ex-CIA man, in the wilds of Finland. Living a life unlike any other teenager, her upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin. The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one; sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe while eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own (Cate Blanchett). As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and unexpected questions about her humanity."

A few words from Actress Saoirse Ronan about her role as Hanna:

"She's this young girl who has basically been trained her whole life by her father to kill," she added. "It should be good fun and I'm training for it in martial arts. It's tough but I really like it and enjoy it. I do two hours in the gym and then I do about two hours of martial arts.
[...]
I wouldn't call it an action movie. It's a movie that has a lot of action in it. It goes quite deep as to where Hanna comes from and what she's all about. To me, it doesn't seem like your typical action film or action hero. She's a very interesting character and I think she's going to be very interesting to play."

Actress Saoirse Ronan

It's a rather surprising role for Hanna, but she's talented so I'm confident she'll do well as Hanna. I'm really impatient to watch her performance. I don't expect her to be as crazy as Chloe Moretz' Hit Girl, but I think Saoirse Ronan will be awesome too in her action scenes.

The movie Hanna should be released sometime in 2011.
